Sort of half and half...i write the poetry first but I also have in mind a photo I have taken or a picture I have. It may take me some time to find the photo as I have a lot of photos taken over the years...35mm so they are on film paper and have to be scanned. Then I combine the two.
Also I may not be able to find the exact picture I remember so I may end up rewriting the poem. So it is a marrying of sorts.
